The Principles of Magick :Part III
Drawing Upon the Elements for effective Magickal Workings

Section 1: Utilizing Environmental Energies

Having discussed the dual nature of Magick and the practitioners place in the scheme of things, now we can move on to methods of making use of the energy that surrounds them. In the breathing exercise given earlier, the student is taught to visualize energy coming in on each breath, this energy is of the second type (environmental) and is easily used to replenish your reserves after ritual. The other use for Environmental energies is during the actual magickal working itself. The oldest methods for doing this are presented all over the World Wide Web and in print today. This is the magick of crystals, incense, metals and other natural implements.
These energies are found in the natural world around us and can be tapped by using the appropriate correspondences to the element to which they belong. This allows us to use the Environmental energies to call upon certain aspects of the natural world that are in harmony with our goals. Though symbolism and imagery we use more of our mind, and more of ourselves is tuned into the goal itself.  By using tools and items that are tied to that particular goal, we are able to better achieve them and do so with greater ease than without them. These tools open certain parts of our subconsciousness and allows us to draw those energies into our rituals. Below is a partial list of some correspondences for each of the Four basic elemental types, Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
